Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The canvas is unlined , has reinforced tacking edges and a horizontal seam. The paint surface is mostly sound but raised with some instability between the boy and the dog. Under U-V light can be seen retouchings to the pillar , on the right hand side, to the dog , the trousers of the boy and some areas of the foreground. Some pale shrinkage cracking has also been reduced. The varnish is discoloured and a tonal difference would be achieved with its removal. Overall, the painting is in a good condition.
Gilt wood moulded frame, some chips."
