The canvas has been relined. There are some scattered paint losses and discoloured old retouchings. There is some frame abrasion. Inspection under UV light is unsatisfactory due to the discoloured varnish but strengthenings and retouchings are apparent. Offered in a carved wood frame in reasonable condition.

The head of Saint Agnes seems to be inspired by that of Herodias in Simon Vouet's painting in Rome, Palazzo Corsini (see J. Thuillier, Vouet, Rome 1991, pp. 83 and 130, cat. no. 1, reproduced p. 83).
