Catalogue Note
Dirck Helmbreker settled in Rome in 1659 and is associated with the third generation of Dutch Italianates working there. He was one of the later bamboccianti, a group of painters influenced by Pieter van Laer, called Il Bamboccio (1599 - circa 1642) who painted scenes of contemporary Italian peasant life.
