Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The thin copper panel has some minor deformations. The paint surface is stable. Restoration can be seen along the edges and corners of the panel where minor damage and abrasion to the paint layer has occurred . Some minor abrasion to some of the flowers leading to compromised original glazing is visible. Tonal improvement if the moderately discoloured varnish were removed."

Catalogue Note
The compositional type of garlands surrounding a Madonna and Child on standard-sized panels or copper plates was very popular in 17th-century Flanders. Francken and his studio specialized in it, often with one artist painting the garlands and another painting the medallions.
This work was formerly attributed to Andries Daniels, accordingꩵ to a text on the reverse.
