Description

Provenance
Page-Cooper Collection, Melbourne;
His sale, 11-12 Se𝔍ptember 1948, as 'School of Rosa' (according to 𓂃a label on the reverse).
Condition
The painting is slightly warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. It has an old relining which is stable. There is an old and dirty varnish, which is slightly discoloured. The paint surface is in good condition, slightly worn to the centre and to the sky and there is a restored area to the upper right. Some old slightly discoloured strengthenings and retouchings are visible to the naked eye, particularly to the upper half. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals a retouched area of 7 by 4 cm. to the upper centre and minor retouchings scattered throughout the composition.
Offered in a later caved and gilt wood frame, in good condition.
