"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The canvas is lined and the paint surface is stable. The naturally sketchy background is slightly abraded as are the darker passages of the dress, particularly those areas in the shadow under the lute. There are minor pin prick losses to the flesh tones and the delicate scumbles and glazes in these areas have been compromised. The varnish is degraded and discoloured and its removal would improve the overall tonality. Generally in a good untouched condition with the possibility of improvement. Offered in an elaborately carved and gilt wood frame, some damages."
