"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The canvas has been lined but there is some instability to the paint layer leading to minor losses, lower right. Much of the sky has been augmented, very little of the blue has been left untouched, but it appears that some of this restoration is excessive. The figures and foreground are in a better condition, although there is some abrasion to the darker passages and the shadows. A tonal improvement would be achieved by the removal of the varnish. Offered in a carved and gilt wood frame, some chips."
