"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The poplar panel is cradled and there is evidence of worm infestation. Minor splits are visible on the paint surface, vertical ones from the bottom edge, upper left and centre. The paint layer is raised and unstable and there have been past minute losses, restored, to the body of Christ , Mary Magdalene's robe and the foreground and more recent un-restored losses to Mary , left. Some worm holes have made their way to the paint surface. Some of the darker shrinkage cracks have been reduced. The varnish has discoloured. Modern wood and fabric frame, good condition."
