"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The oak panel is cradled with a central restored join in good condition; there is a later addition along the bottom edge which has been retouched. The paint surface is secure. The sky has been excessively augmented, in some areas this appears unnecessary and indiscriminate. The foreground has been repainted as has the shadow to the armour left where previous paint loss has occurred. There is excessive augmentation to the mid ground shadows, to the tree trunks and the shadows in the cliffs. The figures are mostly untouched and in good condition."
