Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The canvas is lined and the paint surface is stable. There is a scattering of retouchings in the sky covering minor losses. There are other small restored losses detectable in the cliffs and the sea. The ground colour can be seen through the sketchiness of the paint in the sea and has been reduced in some areas where it has come to dominate. Overall, the painting is in good condition with a slight tonal improvement to be had with the removal of the varnish."
