Provenance

Sotheby's New York, December 11, 2003, lot 223
Condition
Generally very good overall condition. Wrought iron surfaces are clean with a pleasing overall patina. Some surface soiling notably in the recessed areas between the wrought iron filigree decoration and the mica shades. One torchere with three stress fractures to metal filagree above the hinge which is not very noticeable or obtrusive and seemingly stable, also with an old repair to the interior edge of the top mica liner. The other torchere appears to have one filagree area that was broken and repaired above and to the left of the clasp, with one small piece of filagree in this area missing; also with a few minor stress fractures above the hinge which is not overtly aparent due to the intricacy of the design. Mica shade liners are in fragile condition, mica is flaking with scattered cracks and losses, especially around edges and top section beneath finials. Mica liners on both torcheres are possibly replacements. There are also some gaps to the mica where it meets the central horizontal band of each lamp. One lamp lacking its pull chain. The figural finials are slightly loose and would benefit from a minor adjustment. Both torcheres with tags stamped on underside of bases "Oscar B. Bach".
