Description

  • Pair of French Art Deco Gates
  • wrought iron and gilt-bronze

Provenance

Mr. and Mrs. Junius S. Morgan II, Salutation, West Island, Glen Cove, New York
Sotheby Parke Bernet, May 29, 1974, lot 259

Condition

Generally very good overall condition. The wrought iron surfaces are very clean with an overall grey-brown tone which would suggest an overall restoration to the surface. Some very minor bending to a few of the foliate details as expected with age and normal use. The gilt bronze figures are clean and bright with only very minor surface soiling notably to the recessed areas and some very minor scattered surface pitting. The bronze elements are very likely re-gilt. A few of the figures are slightly loose and would benefit from a minor adjustment. The overall composition appears to be symbolic of paradise and has a pleasing visual impact when viewed in person.
