Overall very good original condition. The sculpture is currently affixed to a black fabric-covered board, which measures 96 5/8 x 48 5/8 inches. The structure was designed for use on a stone fireplace, and therefore it has various points where it is fixed the surface. The majority of the sculpture hovers out from the current panel approximately two inches. The wood elements are in excellent condition and have been well maintained. The metal elements are in very good condition with some minor areas of oxidation. The star element is slightly loose and the edges with some minor bending. The elements which contain the inset glass panels can be adjusted slightly, which is likely part of the original design. The glass panels with slight inclusions, as seen in the catalogue illustration, which are inherent in the original design. A beautiful early collaboration between these two designers. The present lot was commissioned from Paul Evans and Phil Powell in the 1950s while they maintained a joint showroom.  The sculpture was mounted as a decorative work on a brick fireplace by the artists.  When the present owner moved from the home for which the piece was🍒 designed, it was transferred to the board on which the sculpture is currently mounted.  Dating to the early careers of Evans and Powell, this work demonstrates the diverse styles of each of the designers, and yet how their aꦬrtistic expressions can complement each other.
