Condition
This work is in very good condition overall. Overall there are drying cracks to the wood that develop over time as is common with Warhol's box sculptures. These cracks appear stable. Most boxes were not encased in Plexiglas until several years after construction so there are always various handling marks, wear and restorations to be expected. This work has relatively fewer and all restorations are well matched.
On one of a 19" wide vertical face, under UV light there is a ½ in. area of restoration located 3 ¾ in. – 4 ¼ in. from the left and 6 – 6 ½ in. from the top. There are scattered areas of small spots of restoration along the right edge located 4 ¾ - 5 ½ in. and 11 ¾ - 12 ½ down from the top. There is a horizontal rub ½ in. in length located 6 ¼ in. from the top and ¼ - ¾ in. from the left.
Moving to the right, a 24" wide vertical face has scattered areas of yellow resin-like residue that fluoresce yellow under Ultraviolet light and are located as follows:
-9 ½ in. down from the top and 1/8 – 2 1/4 in. from the left
-4 in. up from the bottom and extending 1/8 – 1 inch in from the left edge
-Running intermittently 7 ¼ inches along the top edge from the upper left corner
There is 1 area of possible retouching ½ -1in. from the left and 1 – ½ in. from the bottom.
On the next 19" wide face to the right, there is a diagonal area of restoration extending 1 in. from the right and 4 ½ - 5 in. down from the top. There is a soft diagonal rub located 4 1/8 – 5 in. from the right and 1 7/8 – 2 ¼ in. from the bottom. There are also scattered drips and faint scuffs about the "log" of Kellogg's.
On the next 24" wide face there are areas of restoration as follows:
--the tip of the lower right corner
--spots 4 ¼ , 8 ¼ in. and 11 ¾ in. from the right edge approx. 1 in. from the top
-intermittent linear retouches 1 – 4 ½ in. from the left and 6 in. from the bottom.
Overall, there is a very faint pattern of vertical drips primarily visible under UV and mostly in the upper 1/3 of this face.
Top of the box there are scattered diagonal lines, possibly light scuffs, extending from the right edge ranging in length from 1 in – ¼ in. and scattered 5 ½ - 9 in. in the upper right corner. There is a soft 3 in. diagonal scuff between the letters "Pkgs." and "K" of Kellogg's and there are tiny white pin point spots near the "8".
On the bottom of the box there are scattered rubs, handling marks and scratches on all edges as to be expected on the bottom of a sculpture of this type.
Please note this work is stamped by the Andy Warhol Art Authentication Committee and given the number A108.004 on the underside of the box.

Catalogue Note
For the 1970 retrospective of Warhol's work at the Pasadena Art Museum, John Coplans suggested that Warhol make a set of 100 Brillo Soap Pad boxes based on his 1964 box. The entire set has remained in the museum's collection (now known as the Norton Simon Museum). At the same time, Betty Asher suggested a set for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Using the same silkscreen printer as for the Brillo Soap Pad boxes, Warhol produced a set of 100 Kellogg's Cornflakes boxes for♛ LACMA. In both cases, the boxes were made a few inches larger to differentiate them from the 1964 versions.
Mrs. Asher was a collector and the assistant to curator Ma🏅urice Tuchman, as well as a member of the Contemporary Art Council whose mission wasꦉ to bring new art to LACMA. The full set of boxes was included in the 1972 - 1973 show that inaugurated LACMA's contemporary galleries and celebrated the work of the Contemporary Art Council.
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art retains fifty-seven of the 1970 Kellogg's Cornflakes boxes in their collec♕tion. An🍸other ten boxes, including the present work, are known to be in collections outside of the museum.
