Condition
This work is in very good condition with fewer of the scratches, wear and handling as is often seen in the large, unframed works by this artist. The following can be noted:
Under ultraviolet light, there are two small areas of inpainting in the ochre area: a 3/4 inch linear retouch located 44 ¼ - 44 ½ in. from the right and 58 – 58 ¼ in. from the bottom and another spot 36 in. from the right and 57 ½ in. from the bottom.
There are the following scattered light abrasions:
-at the upper left corner area
-a horizontal abrasion at the upper left quadrant
-scattered vertical abrasions in the upper left area
-a diagonal abrasion lower left
-several abrasions with transfer are at the lower left
-at the area below center is a horizontal abrasion with transfer
-at the lower left there are several abrasions with transfer.
In the center ochre color, there is an intermittent horizontal band which has a slightly raised texture. In the upper left dark brown color, there are scattered shiny droplets barely visible to the naked eye without raking light. In the lower right blue, there are scattered faint whitish droplets. In the lower left red color are tiny paint droplets by the artist. At the upper right in the violet area there are tiny black droplets.
At the center right in the blue area there is a small network of faint stress cracks. There is light soiling and handling marks along the edges of the canvas and an accumulation of airborne dust overall.
The canvas is stretched on a folding strainer, and is not framed.
