Catalogue Note
See Pope-Hennessy, Italian Sculpture in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London 1964, no. 676 for a discussion of an example of the very closely related group of alabasters of the Virgin and Child at the church of the Annunziata at Trapani, which in turn probably derives from a lost prototype by Nino Pisano. Similar examples were sold in these rooms December 4, 1982, lot 48, and January 11, 1994, lot 168.
