Ruby, emerald and diamond brooch, Monture Cartier, circa 1960

Description

The bird of paradise to a textured yellow gold body, the eye set with a circular-cut emerald, the wings and branch embellished respectively with brilliant-cut and marquise-shaped diamonds, the tail feathers set with calibré-cut rubies, mounted in yellow gold and platinum, signed Monture Cartier and indistinctly numbered, French assay and maker's marks.
 

Condition

Ruby of Burmese origin cannot be imported into the US. This piece may contain ruby of Burmese origin and therefore may not be able to be imported into the US. Certification of non-Burmese origin will be required before import of jadeite or ruby into the US. Please see our Important Notices and contact the jewellery department for further information. Signed Monture Cartier and indistinctly numbered P7530, the last digit is unclear. Rubies well matched in colour, good saturation, some typical crystal inclusions, minor nicks and abrasion to facet junctions. Diamonds good brilliance. Patches of tarnish, especially to the beak, and scratches to gold consistent with age and wear. In good condition.
