Description

Suspending a pearl tassel, Cartier, with a geometric plaque surmount set with variously shaped rubies and diamonds, accented with cabochon onyx, to similarly set and black enamel connections with strands of twisted pearls, the centre set to either side with a series of links designed as stylised fruiting vines, set with cabochon rubies, highlighed with cushion-shaped and circular-cut diamonds, length approximately 630mm, tassel length approximately 105mm, French assay and maker's marks for Cartier on the tassel, case by Cartier Paris, composite, the front motif circa 1925.

Condition

Ruby of Burmese origin cannot be imported into the US. This piece may contain ruby delete as appropriate] of Burmese origin and therefore may not be able to be imported into the US. Stamped with French assay marks for 18 carat gold and platinum in several places. Accompanied by SSEF report no. 53690 stating that approximately 540 pearls are natural and that due to the mounting less than 5 % of the pearls could not be tested. Seventeen strands of pearls in the tassel, four to the top, five rows to either side, pearls well matched in size with creamy body colour, medium to high lustre, some with grey or rosé overtones. Rubies in tassel surmount well matched in colour with typical inclusions visible with magnification, some minor cavities, surface reaching inclusions, abraded facet junctions and nicks. Principal three rubies estimated to weigh approximately 1.02, 1.39 and 1.19 carats (from top to bottom, gauged in mounting). Diamonds bright and lively throughout. Fruiting vine links added later, citrines brownish yellow colour, cabochon rubies a medium purplish pink, well matched in colour, typical inclusions visible with magnification. Some evidence of lead solder repairs and tarnish to reverse not visible when worn. In overall good condition.
