Catalogue Note

Marquis Michele della Valle was born in Rome and began designing costume jewellery at the age of 16. During the 1970s, he started travelling regularly to the Far East to purchase precious coloured stones. After working for a year at the prestigious Furst Jewellery (which at that time represented Harry Winston in Italy) in the Via Veneto in Rome, della Valle opened his own workshop in the Piazza di Spagna in 1978. He started producing exquisite and unusual jewels and soon gained popularity and recognition as a new designer by clientele of media personalities and opera singers. It was also during this period that he began collaborating with Bulgari in handling special orders. In 1987 he relocated to Geneva where his creative style continued to evolve. It is his passionate love of jewellery that makes his pieces so unique. Only his personal favourites carry the signature Michele della Valle.
