Description
- Saint Bonaventura, dressed as a bishop
- oil on panel, unframed
Condition
The support consists of a single panel that has been back to the reverse by two horizontal batons, one 17.5 cm down from the top edge and the other 14.5 cm up from the bottom edge.
There is a 22 cm vertical running up from the bottom edge 12.5 cm in from the left edge, this has been secured to the reverse by a later horizontal baton. There are some scattered old woodworm holes and minor cracks in the dirty paint surface. Some of the darks areas show signs of wear, most notably in the staff Bonaventura carries.
There are some touched in, scattered minor chips in the wood lower left in his cloak, and upper right in his face, as visible in the catalogue illustration. Restoration work appears otherwise confined to touching in of the sky where the blue has worn away and in some the darks in the ground and to the left of his cloak.
Offered unframed.

Catalogue Note
We are grateful to Professor Marc꧂o Tanzi for suggesting that this is the work of an artist active in ꦗPavia in the first decade of the sixteenth century, close to Bernardino Lanzani and possibly active in the cappella Bottigella in San Tommaso, Pavia.
