Description
- Placido Costanzi
- Susannah and the Elders
- oil on canvas
Condition
The canvas is lined and the lining secure. There are several old restored damages, particularly in the central portion of the composition; below and around Susannah's face and on her torso, on the neck and upper torso of the lowermost elder, in the background immediately behind him and in the background to the right of Susannah. There is a restoration approx 2 by 1 cm to Susannah's calf, retouchings throughout her uupper leg, and some surface scratches lower left. Quite what this damages were is difficult to say but they appear to be localised series of small tears and are now quite evident to the naked eye. The paint surface is rather dirty and covered by a yellow varnish.
