Catalogue Note

The present portrait was painted around the time of Doge Renier's ascension in 1779. As the penultimate doge of Venice, he ruled until 1789. The portrait can be compared with Gallina's three-quarter length portrait in the Correr Museum in Venice (see C. Donzelli, I pittori veneti del settecento, Florence 1957, p. 96, plate 131).
