Illustrated top: The canvas has a hard lining which has resulted in some instability of the paint surface and subsquent restoration. There are large patches where the paint is lifting along the lower margin and tracts or restoration where it has already done so. Some of the figures have been strengthened, notably the rightmost standing figure ehose back is largely repainted. There are some retouchings scattered in the trees and builing centre left and some strengthening to the shadowed areas of water. There are further restored losses along the extreme upper margin. Illustrated below: The canvas has been laid on board and the surface is far less fragile than the pendant. There are restorations along the lower margin including some strengthening to the figures. There are scattered retouchings throughout the foliage and headland at the right and further strengthening to the sky along the upper margin; the sails of the ships have also been strengthened.
