Acquired directly from the artist by the grandfather of the present owner in the 1920s

Apart from some light bowing at the upper and lower right corners (convex), and two horizontal hairline cracks emanating from the centre of the right edge (approx. 2cm. & 1cm.), the board is in good condition. There are no signs of retouching visible under ultraviolet light. Apart from two pinhead-sized flecks of paint loss (one to the mast of the ship on the left and one to the centre of the extreme left edge) this work is in good original condition, with rich colours and a strong surface. Held in a decorative, gold-painted moulded plaster and wood frame.
