Acquired by the grandfather of the present owners in Berlin at the turn of the century
Condition
Original canvas. There are scattered spots of retouching visible under ultraviolet light, through a varnish, notably at the centre of the extreme upper edge and upper half of the extreme left edge. There is a discoloured varnish, scattered fine surface dirt and vertical craquelure, a few flecks of varnish loss along the upper edge and a fleck of paint loss with some pinhead-sized flecks of paint raising at the upper right. This work exhibits rich tones and fine detail. Held in a wide, decorative, gold-painted moulded plaster and wood frame, with a name plate.
