Condition
The canvas has been re-lined. There are scattered areas of retouching visible under ultraviolet light, notably to the right side of the sky. Apart from scattered areas of thinned surface due to overcleaning and the re-lining, notably at the lower right and along the extreme left edge, this work is in good condition. Held in a decorative, gold-painted moulded plaster and wood frame, with a name plate.

Catalogue Note
Painted circa 1896, according to Vidar Poulsson, when Thaulow was living in Dieppe and regularly painted rivers nearby. Two other similar views are known to exist, one of which is reproduced in Einar Østvedt, Frits Thaulow: Mannen of verket, Oslo, 1951, p. 135. All three feature the church spire in the background and the red end of the house in the village below.
