Purchased by the grandfather of the present owner in 1931

Condition

i.) Unexamined out of frame and under glass, apart from bowing slightly at the centres of the horizontal edges (concave), the board is in good condition. There is one small area of retouching visible under ultraviolet light, to the lower left corner. This work is in overall very good condition, with rich colours and fine detail, and ready to hang. Held in a decorative, wide, gold-painted moulded plaster and wood frame, with a name plate, under glass. ii.) Unexamined out of frame and under glass, apart from bowing very slightly at the lower edge (convex), the board is in good condition. There is a repaired Y-shaped tear across the right 3/4 of the composition visible under ultraviolet light. This work is in overall good condition, with rich colours and fine detail, and ready to hang. Held in a decorative, wide, gold-painted moulded plaster and wood frame, with a name plate, under glass.

Catalogue Note

The Ca' Vendramin Calergi, built in the last two decades of the fifteenth century, was the home of many prominent people through history, and is remembered as the place where composer Richard Wagner (1813-1883) died. Currently, it is home to the Venice Casino (Casinò di Venezia) and the Wagner Museum (Museo Wagner).
