Condition

STRUCTURE The painting is supported by two seperate panels, joined vertically in the middle. The panels have bowed slightly with age but appear to be in generally good condition and are providing a stable support for the painting. PAINT SURFACE The painting appears to be in good condition with no apparent paint loss or damage. ULTRAVIOLET Examination under ultraviolet light reveals retouching down the length of the vertical panel join in the centre of the picture. There is also further retouching around the sitter's hat. There is also retouching down the left hand side of the painting and in minor scattered areas in the sitter's costume. FRAME Held in a dark wooden frame.
