  • Height 14 3/4 in. 37.5 cm.
standing on a rectangular base with her forearms extended and both hands opened, and wearing a long dress, her face with wide-set eyes with indented pupils and grooved eyebrows, the ears pierced, the base inscribed for Aftâm, of the Mahad family.

Provenance

most likely from Timna`, the main necropolis of the Kingdom of Qatabân, on the western and southwestern slopes of Hayd Ibn `Aqîl
French private collection, Paris, 1920s/1930s
Paul Sanguinetti (d. 1957), acquired from the above before Word War II
by descent to the present owner

Condition

Amateurish repair across legs needs to be redone, nose and fingers chipped, metal earrings of uncertain date, surface very dirty (palm grease, nicotine, etc.).
