Condition

Overall in very good condition. The shade with less than 6 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout. The rare “Peacock” base is in very good condition, with light rubbing to the patinated bronze surfaces and a few areas of minor surface discoloration consistent with age and gentle use. The bronze surfaces on the base are slightly dull, and would probably benefit from a gentle waxing to revitalize the surfaces. The shade arms on the base with some minor surface scratches and wear. The inset leaded glass “Peacock” eyes on the base are all intact and appear undisturbed. The underside of the base retains old felt glides applied many years ago. The base retains its original oil canister, but the sockets and switches were replaced many years ago (one socket retains an old Sotheby’s lot sticker from 1990). The shade and base present beautifully together as a unit, representing the ideal pairing for this rare model. The shade displays a superb artistic glass selection with a fully saturated range of jewel tones ranging from deep cobalt blue, purple and emerald green transitioning below to amethyst and mauve striated with mint green; the deep blue-green peacock eyes are framed in bright green, turquoise and yellow. The rare “Peacock” base displays an exceptionally rich russet brown and green patina. A strong and beautiful example of the model.
