- A PAIR OF GILT METAL, ENAMEL AND PEARL-SET CENTRE SECONDS OPEN-FACED WATCHES MADE FOR THE CHINESE MARKETCIRCA 1800
- diameters 57 mm
• each with gilt duplex movement signed Just, decoratively engraved with foliate scrolls • gold cuvette with engraved decoration • white enamel dials, Roman numerals • cases with both bezel and bow set with split-pearls, case backs with blue enamel on engine-turned background, applied central split-pearl decoration • two matching gold, enamel and pearl-set keys, presentation case
Condition
1st: The movement signed Just & Son (no.3026) is running at the time of cataloguing however it may benefit from a service. Dial with a small area of restoration between 7 and 8 o'clock. Enamel case back in good condition. There are a couple of split pearls missing to the bezel and the bow.
2nd: The movement signed Leo rd Just (no.2795) will run at the time of cataloguing but stops after a short time, it will require a service. Dial is in good condition. Enamel case back with chips to the edge. There are some split pearls missing to the bezel and the bow.
There are pearls missing to the matching keys.

Catalogue Note
Originally a prestigious watch maker in London, Leonard Just branched to Hong Kong in 1846 when Hong Kong Island was ceded to Great Britain. Gradually Just routed out his business and home in Macau and moved to Hong Kong.
