The canvas is lined. There is a thick layer of varnish through which the UV light cannot fully penetrate, but there appear to be areas of fluorescence throughout the sky, possibly old retouching. Apart from an uneven varnish and two small spots of paint loss, one in the green area to the right of the volcano and the other towards the centre of the left edge, this work is in good condition. Colours: Overall fairly accurate although the background is much warmer in the original.
