Catalogue Note
Joan Miró and Josep Llorens Artigas worked together on a number of ceramics, with Artigas the advisor techinician and Miro the creative force behind their work. Although they grew up friends it took a while for the two masters to work together. However, in the early 1940s they began an artistic adventure that was to lead to some of the most breathtakingœuvres of their careers.
'...the story of Miró and Artigas is, above all, that of an extraordinary close collaboration of two artists who succeeded in creating a unique body of work. Theirs was an exceptional collaboration in that neither one felt the slightest need to repress their indiviuality, nor was there any tendency to overshadow the other. Thanks, undoubtedly, to the mutual respect they felt for each other. The signature Miró-Artigas bears witness to the fraternal union that existed between them and testifies to what grew into a rich adventure, headed by two strong personalities who jointly signed all the ceramics they created together.' (J. Gardy Artigas, op.cit., 2007, p. 17)
