The canvas is not lined. There is an uneven layer of varnish to the surface of the canvas preventing the UV light from fully penetrating but there appear to be some areas of fluorescence visible under UV light, mainly in the upper left quadrant and probably due to the artist's material rather than later retouchings. Apart from some fine lines of raised craquelure in the upper half of the composition, this work is in very good condition. Colours: The colours are overall much fresher in the original than in the illustration of the printed catalogue; The background colours are more subtle and the attractive impasto is more prominent.
