Condition
Executed on cream wove paper, not laid down, attached to the overmount at intervals along all four edges, the verso is floating in the mount. The right edge is deckled. There are several artist's pinholes to all four corners. There are two small areas of paper loss with associated paper infill to the extreme left edge and a further minor pinhead-sized spot of paper loss with associated paper infill to the centre of the upper edge (all visible on the verso). There is some paper skinning to the edges, though mainly to the upper and lower extreme edges. There is a minor nailhead-sized stain to the lower left edge, possibly glue residue from the mounting process. Apart from some tiny specks of foxing and slight undulation to the sheet, light time staining to all four edges, probably due to previous mounting and some handling marks to the verso, this work is in overall good condition.
Colours: The paper tone is much brighter in the original than in the catalogue illustration.

Catalogue Note
'From mid 1912 on, Wally's (Valerie's) flashing green eyes, generous mouth, and tawny hair... are instantly recognisable in Schiele's drawings. She has now literally become real to him, and hence to us.'
Jane Kallir, 2003
