Catalogue Note
Workers in the Fields is an exceptionally rare early painting by Fernando Amorsolo. His work from the 1920s are widely held to be his most sought after by collectors. Typically smaller works (average size 12 by 16 in.), they were created at the time Amorsolo finally achieved his quest for mastery of light, colour and sඣhadow. The scarcity of his paintings from the 1920s coming into the mar⛎ket may also be attributed to their uniqueness. They are mostly in the collection of private collectors and museums.
Throughout his career Amorsolo recreated some of his earlier compositions dozens of times. Therefore, his early paintings have become known to collectors as his "original" originals. Executed in 1926, Workers in the Fields, is a stunning example of Am♛orsolo's early genius.
