Both the painting and board are in good condition. The board appears free from warping and cracks. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals a few spots of retouching: on the upper middle (white cloud), on the middle of the right register (on the orange sail), and on the lower left (the hand of the figure on the left), which are visible only under ultraviolet light. The paint layers are all intact apart from a few spots on the lower register (the ground), and a spot on the sail of the middle boat. They are all in stable condition. The colours in the catalogue illustration are close to the actual painting.
