Acquired directly from the artist in the 1960s

The painting is in good condition, as is the board, which is clear from cracks or warping. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals small scattered spots of retouching on the branch and on the rabbits, occuring mostly in the darker areas. These are apparent only after UV light inspection. The paint layers are well-preserved. The actual painting is lighter and less green-toned and red-toned in reality, particularly the brown shade. The background is more grey and the contrast is also less bright compared to the catalogue illustration.
