The painting is in good condition, as is the board, which is clear from cracks or warping. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals scattered spots of retouching in general, mostly on the upper half of the painting, in the background. Some minor spots of retouching are present on the goldfish, but these are visible only under ulraviolet light. The paint layers are well-preserved. The actual painting is less red-toned and the colours are more intense in reality.
