Description

  • Haut. 14 cm ; larg.12 cm ; prof. 23 cm ; 4,68 x 5,46 x 9,97 in

This naturally round specimen displays the beautiful iridescent nacreous layer of its fossilized shell, characteristic of this species, with a gorgeous and visually appealing play of colours. During fossilisation, the nacreous layer was chemically transformed into the iridescent material called ammolite. This is an opal-like gemstone that separates the light and generates a rainbow of colours for the viewer. This precious ammonite has been excellently prepared, polished and finally coated by a protective film which intensifies the natural brilliance of the colours.

Provenance

Collection d'un musée privée R.F.A

Condition

this exceptionnal piece is in perfect condition. no restoration. the cracks visible on the picture of the catalogue are completly natural, it doesn't week the ammonite at all. opalescence on shell looks motly red but reflects may because of tilts in green, yellow or red orange. the back of the ammonite is partly opal with visible traces on the matrix. (It is sadly impossible to remake those wonderfull colors on pictures). very attractive piece
