Description
- Luca Carlevarijs
- Venice, a view of the piazzetta
- oil on canvas
Condition
The sky of the original has a little less blue in it than appears in the catalogue illustration.
The canvas has been relined. The is are seven old restored vertical damages, the largest and most noticeable of which are approx 10 cm long in the centre of the canvas running through the boat with the white awning, approx 15 cm long just to the left of this and another diagonal damage of 1approx 20 by 5 cm in the left hand sky. The paint surface is secure, if a little abraded in the dark areas lower left, and under a dirty yellowed varnish.
Inspection under UV light reveals restoration to the aforementioned damages and some other very minor scattered work.
