Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has an old lining. PAINT SURFACE The painting appears to be in good condition and there are no apparent areas of damage or loss of paint. ULTRAVIOLET Examination under ultraviolet light reveals scattered retouching to the background in the upper section of the painting, as well as minor scattered retouching in the lady's face. There is also some retouching along the lower right hand edge, and there is a discoloured and opaque varnish overall. FRAME Held in a painted and gilded frame in generally good condition.
