STRUTURE The canvas has been relined and placed on a new stretcher. PAINT SURFACE The painting appears to be in generally good condition. There is one abrasion mark in the lower right of the canvas, between the body of the horse and dog, and there is one small dent to the canvas in the extreme lower right. ULTRAVIOLET Examination under ultraviolet light reveals retouching the background around the horse's front legs, as well as minor scattered retouching overall. There is also a slightly discoloured and opaque varnish overall. FRAME Held in a modern gilded wooden frame.
