Sold with a Portrait of the Famed Racehorse 'Sir Tatton Sykes' with his Owner and Groom, after John Frederick Herring Snr., signed and dated: VB 1849, and inscribed: Sir Tatton Sykes, oil on canvas, 58.5 by 79 cm.; 23 by 31 in.

STRUCTURE
Both canvases have been lined.
PAINT SURFACE
Both paintings appear to be in good condition, with no apparent paint loss or damage.
ULTRAVIOLET
Sartorius:
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals minor strengthening to the body of the horse and an opaque and discoloured old varnish overall.
Tatton Sykes:
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals extensive strengthening in the background and scattered minor retouching.
FRAME
The Sartorius held in a gilded wooden frame. The second picture held in a modern wooden frame.
