Good overall condition, original canvas. The painting is very dirty. The painting will be brighter after a cleaning. Under the ultraviolet light, some minor scattered repaints in the background.

Catalogue Note

Elève de Jean-Baptiste Regnault à Paris, Emmanuel Fries se spécialisa dans la peinture de natures mortes, de fleurs et de fruits. Il s'inscrit dans la tradition du célèbre Pierre-Joseph Redouté, et des grands peint🧸res de fleurs hollandais. Fries a également fait du dessin industriel, contribuant à développer l'utilisation des motifs floraux et végétaux dans l'industrie du textile. Il exposa au Salon à Paris en 1837. Le Musée de Mulhouse conserve plusieurs oeuvres de cet artiste.
