Condition
This photograph is in generally very good to excellent condition. There is a small (1/8-inch) loss to the top layer of emulsion along the upper edge of the print. In high raking light, the following are visible: tiny deposits of original retouching; various transparent matte smudges along the left and top right edges of the print; and a scattering of superficial surface scratches that do not appear to break the emulsion. Also visible in the upper left quadrant of the image is a one-inch crescent-shaped light horizontal surface impression.
The cream-colored mount is yellowed except at its periphery. The upper mount edge has a small abrasion. There are light graphite-colored fingerprints on the mount.
Karen Haas's and Rebecca Senf's book, 'Ansel Adams in the Lane Collection,' publishes the most comprehensive list to date of the studio stamps and labels Adams used throughout his career. Our dating of this print is based upon the authors' assessment of the use dates of stamps 5 and 6 on the reverse of this print: 1962 to 1963. Stamp 10 indicates that this print is from a Polaroid Type 55 negative.
