- Polaroid prints
2 unique Polaroid Type 52 prints of Redding Woods, Connecticut, one flush-mounted, credit and date in pencil on the reverse of each, 1968 (The Wise Silence, pl. 60 and 25 Years, fig. 68, p. 41, variants) (2)
Condition
Both photographs are in good condition. Clearly, one image was clearly taken during the same session that also produced Caponigro's famous and oft-reproduced image, Redding Connecticut (The Wise Silence, pl. 60). It is only upon close examination that the few differences between the photographs can be made out. This Polaroid print was once affixed to a mount, and there are losses on its reverse which are a consequence of its removal. There is a faint handling crease in the upper left portion of the image not breaking the emulsion, and a similar faint crease on the lower right portion of the image. These are only visible in raking light.
The second photograph, a snow scene, is affixed to a mount that was removed from a larger piece of board. The reverse is roughened. There is an arcing crease across the lower left quadrant of the image that breaks the emulsion slightly.
Despite their condition issues, both prints are beautiful renderings of their idyllic woodland scenes.
