Description
- Edward Weston (1886-1958)/Cole Weston (1919-2003)
- 'EDWARD WESTON'
- Gelatin silver
a group of 9 (of 10) photographs from the portfolio Edward Weston (New York: Witkin-Berley, Ltd., 1971, an edition of 55 copies), printed by Cole Weston from his father's negatives, each mounted, signed and annotated by Cole Weston in pencil and stamped and labeled on the reverse, editioned '1 of 5 AP' in pencil on the label, 1925-48, printed circa 1971. Folio, black cloth folding case in matching slipcase with silver foil overlay and photographic reproduction (9)
Condition
Each print, except where noted, is in generally excellent condition. This portfolio is lacking the dye-transfer print, 'Blue Dune, Oceano,' 1948. The portfolio box is in good condition. The edges and extremities are rubbed, and the top ply of the black paper on which the silver embossed title is affixed is lifting at the corners. The embossed title is rubbed at the edges, and there are fingerprints and indentations throughout.
The plates are as follows.
Plaster Works, Los Angeles, 1925
Casa de Vecindad, D. F., 1926
Rose, Mexico, 1926
Two Shells, 1927 - This print is matted, and it has a 'Dan Berley Collection' label on the reverse of the mount. There is light soiling on the reverse of the mount.
Flaming Cypress Root, Point Lobos, 1929 - The lower edge at the right side is slightly rubbed, and in high raking light, a tiny deposit of original retouching is visible at the center right portion of the print.
Pepper No. 30, 1929 - There are small cloth tape remains on the reverse of the mount in the upper portion.
Nude, 1934
Grass Against Sea, Big Sur, 1937 - In raking light, a tiny deposit of original retouching is visible near the lower left corner of the print.
North Wall, Point Lobos, 1946 - The right edge of the print is rubbed, resulting in 3 tiny emulsion losses. In high raking light, a tiny indentation not breaking the emulsion is visible in the lower right portion of the print.
