Description
- W. Eugene Smith
- THE SPINNER (FROM 'SPANISH VILLAGE ESSAY')
- gelatin silver
the photographer's LIFE stamp on the reverse, 1951, probably printed in 1950s (Johnson, cover and 13:038)
Condition
This beautiful, subtle print, on double-weight paper with a faintly lustrous surface sheen and with a full range of gray tones, is in generally very good to excellent condition. It is slightly rubbed at the edges, resulting in tiny nicks, and the corners are bumped.
When examined in raking light, the following are barely visible: a tiny disruption of the surface at the upper left corner; slight silvering at the periphery, and extremely light, faint linear indentations in the surface. These do not break the emulsion and are visible only under the closest examination.
The stamp, in black ink on the reverse, reads 'LIFE Photo by W. Eugene Smith.'
When examined in ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
