Condition

This early print, on paper with a surface sheen, is in generally very good condition. In the late 1920s, Weston discovered that glossy paper allowed him to coax more detail and greater tonal range out of his photographs. In raking light, the following are visible: silvering primarily in the dark areas at the periphery; a few pin-point-sized impressions that do not appear to break the emulsion; and some fine, curvilinear scratches in the upper left and central areas, some of which appear to break the emulsion. There is a tiny edge chip near the lower left corner. The photograph is on a thin tan mount that was likely trimmed. The periphery exhibits age-darkening and there are droplet deposits of indeterminate nature near the upper edge.
